Dhoom 3 Movie Review

Remakes have been a common phenomenon in the bollywood industry ever since it is born. “Dhoom 3” is one of them. It suggests me an immature mix of Christopher Nolan’s “The Prestige”, Louis Leterrier’s “Now You See Me”, Rakesh Roshan’s “Krissh 3” and Karan Johar’s “My Name is Khan”. The movie centres around how two identical twins Samir & Sahir (Aamir Khan), who use their illusionist skills in avenging a greedy banker/owner by driving that bank to shutdown for their personal grudge.

“Vijay Krishna Acharya” – The man behind this all flash and no substance movie can be termed as an maverick in making sure his marketing strategies are so penetrating into the masses that any of his movies open to huge collections, giving him a good return (All his previous movies Tashan, Raavan …). The movie released with so much of positive buzz around it, but I had my own doubts after seeing the promo where the perfectionist “Aamir Khan” performed the bollywood version of “Tap Dogs”.

Coming to the performances, Aamir Khan should be commended for selecting such a subject despite his stardom. After seeing the 172 minute movie, neither the story gives the perfectionist a chance to display his core skills of a magician nor does he try to…. I felt he was only comfortable in a few romantic scenes with the long legged “Katrina Kaif” hanging across the ropes in bollywood magical dance sequence.

Katrina Kaif looks elegant with a nice anatomy and sharp features but the performance is OK. Still trying to understand how can a circus main female lead be selected with her crazy introduction? Was Samir tricked by the so called bollywood circus dance or the pieces of clothing discarded one by one and eventually ending up on a outfit which made everyone waiting for more…..

Abhishek Bachan tries hard to potray himself as a no-nonsense SuperCOP from India. Strangely his jokes in movie always have no sense. His introduction in the movie with an Autorickshaw still surprises me. How can a SuperCop of India end up breaking walls with Autorickshaw?

Uday Chopra – The scatterbrained super cop who assists Abhishek from India. He tries hard to potray himself as a Super Hero with exceptional features with no appreciation in every opportunity. His role in this movie has minimal importance. He is seen mostly driving the bike or dreaming about having a long relationship with anyone. In short, he hardly evokes laughter for his comedian role.

Few Main PitFalls in the Movie:

1. How can a person run perpendicular to a building without his shoes touching the wall?

2. Why does the Chicago Police always watch a guy robbing a bank and never shoot at him?

3. How can a person driving a bike in chicago end up in a dam in Swizerland?

4. How can a Hut made of asbestos take a load of an auto rickshaw?

5. How can the greedy old banker look of the same age after 20 years?

6. Can a banker fire the SuperCop from India?

In short, the entire cast just did this film for a paycheck. The real magic trick was taking our money. I would wait for this movie to be released in “NetFlix”.
